The California Real Estate Inspection Association (CREIA) is a voluntary, nonprofit public-benefit organization of real estate inspectors. Founded in 1976, CREIA provides education, training and support services to its members and the real estate community. CREIA's Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice are recognized by the California Business and Professions Codes and are considered the standard of care by the real estate industry and legal profession in the state. CREIA Inspector Members have successfully passed the proctored comprehensive written California Home Inspector Exam on the myriad of systems and components in the construction and maintenance of residential dwellings. CREIA's educational mission is to expand the technical knowledge of its members through continuing education. Certified CREIA Inspectors (CCI), Master CREIA Inspectors (MCI) and CREIA New Construction Specialist (CNCS) members must complete a minimum 30 hours of continuing education annually. Educational credits are obtained through monthly chapter educational meetings, chapter toolbox seminars, CREIA Advanced Mentoring Program (CAMP), state conferences in the spring and fall, and other CREIA approved sources. CREIA membership activities and program encourage the sharing of experience and knowledge resulting in betterment of the real estate profession and the consumer public, which it serves. If you are buying, selling, building, remodeling, upgrading or repairing a property; CREIA members provide a variety of impartial inspection services for almost every need and purpose, from a generalist inspection of an entire property to an in-depth inspection of a specific system or component.
CCHIThe Coalition of California Home Inspectors (CCHI) was created in 1995 to bring together the common interests of all home inspectors in California so they can have effective representation to the legislature. Prior to creation of the CCHI, inspectors and organizations working independently presented a “mixed message” to the legislature. We were vulnerable to the “divide and conquer” tactics of competing interests in the legislature, and had no credible voice. Various representatives from the California Real Estate Inspection Association (CREIA), American Society of Home Inspectors® (ASHI), and American Institute of Inspectors™ (AII), as well as several independent companies and individuals, realized we needed to work together to achieve the best interests of all home inspectors in the state.
ICC The International Code Council (ICC) is a membership association dedicated to building safety and fire prevention. ICC develops the codes and standards used to construct residential and commercial buildings, including homes and schools. The International Codes, or I-Codes, published by ICC, provide minimum safeguards for people at home, at school and in the workplace. The I-Codes are a complete set of comprehensive, coordinated building safety and fire prevention codes. Building codes benefit public safety and support the industry’s need for one set of codes without regional limitations. Fifty states and the District of Columbia have adopted the I-Codes at the state or jurisdictional level. Federal agencies including the Architect of the Capitol, General Services Administration, National Park Service, Department of State, U.S. Forest Service and the Veterans Administration also enforce the I-Codes. The Department of Defense references the International Building Code for constructing military facilities, including those that house U.S. troops, domestically and abroad. Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands enforce one or more of the I-Codes.
